Cinco de Mayo Pics!

Last week we learned about Cinco de Mayo, as well as an introduction of basic concepts in Spanish.  Our little learners were amazing with how quickly they picked up new vocabulary.

How cute are these "Ninos de Sarape" glyphs?  I LOVE THEM!  I especially love how they take on the personalities of their creators! 

Our little ones had so much fun with our piñata and eating chips and salsa.  It was a great way to end our week.

Camp Freebie!

This week we will begin one of my favorite themes~camping!  There are so many fun activities to do with this theme. 5 For Friday!

Yay, I think I may finally have gotten it together to participate in my first 5 for Friday linky!  I  have been wanting to do this for awhile, but it seemed like Friday came and went before I could get something together.

1. We had our annual Family Fun Night with an art auction.  Every classroom made an art project to be put up for silent auction.  It is amazing to see all the creative masterpieces.  Here are both morning and afternoon classes with our art project.  

Everyone was responsible for at least one letter of the alphabet.  They traced the letter with crayon then painted their square with liquid watercolor.  We backed it with scrapbook paper then framed it.  Everyone was so excited and proud of their work.  I think it turned out pretty darn cute!  Here is a picture of two of my sweet girls enjoying pizza that evening.

2. My daughter is coming home this weekend!  Yippee!  I haven't seen her since Christmas break.  Her visit will be short, but very sweet.  This picture was taken when I helped move her to Arizona after she graduated from college last May.  I miss her terribly.

3.  I will soon be getting a new (to me) car at the end of the month.  One of my co-workers is selling me her car.  I leased a car that I need to turn back end at the end of the month.  I was trying to decide what to get next when this fell into my lap.  I love it!

4.  I signed up for classes this summer.  I will be working on taking additional hours past my Master's.  Many classes will be on technology in the classroom.  I hope this old dog can learn some new tricks!

5.  My besties at work.  These ladies help me make it through the most difficult of days.  We laugh so hard our abs hurt.

I have/Who has Colors Freebie!

My sweet little ones love to play "I have/who has" games and so do I.  We play them at circle time or if we have a few minutes to kill at the end of the day {rare}.  It is an easy and quick way for me to assess which of my learners have mastered certain concepts and which ones need more practice.  I use these games with colors, shapes, numbers, and abc's.  I have a free color I have/who has game for you as a thank you for finding my blog.  Enjoy!

"Happy Earth Day" to Us!

Here are some of our activities from last week.

 We started off the week learning about things that can be recycled vs. things that cannot.  We also sorted our recyclable items by type.  Our little learners did a great job doing both.

We made these by combining shaving cream and liquid watercolors of blue and green.  Our sweeties then took a popsicle stick and swirled all together.  They placed their paper on top.  After about 5 minutes the shaving cream and paint mixture was scraped off.  Afterwards, the Earth was glued on a piece of construction paper.  Everyone picked their color of hearts and glued around their Earth art.

 Everyone picked what type of flower they wanted to plant and put their seeds in their own cups.  We added water and placed them on the window sill.  Hopefully, (fingers crossed) the seeds will sprout soon!

 We all made Earth Day Promises to help keep our Earth clean and well cared for.  Everyone took their promise very seriously.

The weather was FINALLY nice enough on Thursday, so we went outside to pull weeds and plant flowers.

Nursery Rhyme Time!

First let me say,  I love, love, love doing a nursery rhyme unit.  It's very rewarding to hear sweet little ones reciting the rhymes they learned in class.  Many of my students were not very familiar with nursery rhymes, so it was fun introducing them to the magic of the rhyme.

After reciting 'Jack Be Nimble',  the little learners had to order the candlesticks from smallest to biggest.  Afterward, we all recited the rhyme inserting the name of the sweetie instead of 'Jack' as they jumped over the candlesticks.  It was such fun.

Every day we did an art/learning project that incorporated a particular nursery rhyme.  At the end of the week, we put them all together for a take home book.

Here are my sweet little ones reading their take home book, once it was all put together.  The sound of their voices reciting the rhymes was music to my ears!  Since then, I have heard back from several parents telling me how much they love the book.  :)

Another Earth Day Freebie!

I ended up making another Earth Day activity for my sweet learners today and wanted to share it with anyone looking for some last minute ideas.  This is another sorting activity, but this time the sweeties have to sort by items that can be recycled and items that have to be thrown away.  Enjoy!
