5 for Friday and a Calm Down Freebie!

Hey there!  I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for Five for Friday.  Let's get started!

Notice anything different?  Yep, I have a new blog design!  Thanks to Alexis at Laugh Eat Learn Designs.  I absolutely am in LOVE with it!  She was amazing to work with.  We are still tweaking a few small things, but it's pretty much finished.  Thank you, Alexis!!!

I've been reading a lot about flexible seating in the classroom.  I already have a few options, but am super excited about these babies. 

 I was able to place an order at the end of the school year.  They are from Lakeshore.  I am anxious to see how they work.

I had a lot of request about a calm down chart, like the one I blogged about here. The one I blogged about I pinned from Pinterest.  I just created one and you can pick it up HERE for free!

I blogged about my Durango trip last week, but wanted to say one last thing.  My oldest brother passed away a few years back.  As a tribute to him, we took this picture.  He is always near, dear and in our hearts. 

I'm sure every teacher can relate to this someecard! I have already started working on back to school ideas, plus planning units throughout the year.  Honestly though, I don't mind.  At least I can work on it at a leisurely pace, when I have the time, AND I'm not dead dog tired!  I'd love to hear what you are working this summer!

Five for Friday: Summer Edition!

It's been more than a few weeks since I checked in, so I wanted to write a short post about what's been happening in my life.  I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for Five for Friday to share.

I flew to Phoenix to visit my daughter...{happy dance} 

The next day, we picked up her puppy.  A French Bulldog who is the sweetest little nugget.  I instantly fell in love!

She found out a couple of days before she could get her that her puppy has a level three heart murmur.  My daughter had the opportunity to get a different dog, but she had already bonded with her baby and decided to take her home and love her, whatever her life expectancy may be.  I am so proud of her, but my heart breaks at the thought of anything less than a full life.

We traveled to Durango a few days later to visit sisters, cousins, and aunts.  Baby puppy came along.

She had her first experience with snow.  {Seeing that she lives in Phoenix, this will be a rarity, unless she brings her back to the mid-west during the winter}

After the kids/cousins left all my siblings joined us for a Ragan Renewal, of sorts.  My dad started the Ragan Renewal many, many years ago.  Since that time both he and my oldest brother have passed away, but they are always with us in spirit.

Family is very important to me and I am blessed to have come from a very large, very loving family.

 We hiked, biked, talked til all hours of the night, went out to eat, hung at my brother's house, hot tubbed, and went to Telluride {just to name a few  things} :)

It was ah-mazing!

Awhile back I mentioned I was going to revamp my blog design.  I'm working with a fabulous blogger who is helping me.  She's very talented.

This is what we have so far.  Love it!

I just finished a new pack that I added to my TPT store.  Right now it's 50% off for 48 hours.

I'm very excited about my 'Extra Practice Pack'.  This will help my littles learn personal information, such as their full name, parents' names, birthday, phone number, address, colors, shapes, name writing, number formation, alphabet writing, and monthly reading logs.  It's really easy to use…..just print the pages you wish to use, add a parent cover page, and send home!  This homework packet helps parents know what to teach at home and helps me by reinforcing pre-k skills.  It's a total win-win!

June was the best month for me.

Is it just me or does it seem like once the fourth of July comes and goes summer break flies by?

I can't believe it's already time to start thinking about the upcoming school year.

I am going to enjoy the days as I ease back into my planning….

Ocean Activities Five for Friday!

Hey there!  I'm finally able to sit down and write a blog post since I'm officially on summer break.  {Woo hoo} The last month or so, I've kind of neglected my little ole blog.  Things were super busy and unfortunately my blog got pushed to the bottom of the pile.  So, I'm gonna backtrack into May and play catch up….

We ended the year with an ocean unit.  There are so many fun things to do with this theme.  

This was one of my favorite craftivities of the year. After studying ocean life, each little learner drew a picture of things they could see under the water.  Then, to display our work we made either mermaids, mermen, or scuba divers.  {They got to decide which one they wanted to make}

They made such a cute display!

 Using a magnetic fishing pole, the little learners caught a shaped fish, identified the shape by describing the characteristics and then placed it in an 'aquarium'.

 Then, they completed a student page of shapes.  Some shapes were small so using a magnifying glass to look at them was a super fun bonus!

 

 Using different color fish cards, the little ones sorted by color first and then practiced patterning.

The good stuff was brought out next!

 What's an ocean unit without Goldfish crackers?

To work on our alphabet recognition and phonemic awareness skills, I put magnetic letters in a fish bowl.  Each student took turns fishing out a letter.  If they identified it and/or knew the letter sound they got to keep it.  If not, it went back into the fish bowl.  

My class loves these kinds of games.  When we are finished they can trade in their fish for special treasures.

We also made sandcastles using different shapes of sandpaper.  

The bottom of the picture was first brushed with watered down glue and then sand was sprinkled on top.  I love the creativity each sweetie used when making their sandcastle.
