We have officially 'learned' all the letters of the alphabet, so we spent the week reviewing our abc's.
Each little one had their own copy of 'Chicka Chicka Boom Boom'. We practiced reading it out loud as a whole group. I love whole group class readings. It helps me see who can follow along, as well as who has good book handling skills. After we read through the book once, we looked at separate pages and pointed out different letters.
The learners practiced matching upper and lower case coconut letters to the palm trees.
Another one of our super fun alphabet activities was a 'flipping' success. Depending on each sweetie's learning level of the alphabet, I would call out a letter or letter sound for them to find and use a spatula to place the correct pancake on a plate.
These picture card necklaces were used to have my little ones find their match by either beginning sound or rhyming words. This activity was used to partner up for centers, learning activities, etc. It was super fun for them, allowed them to move around during a learning activity, and helped me see who grasp the concept quickly and gave me time to work with the others who needed a little more guidance.
For another sensory part of our learning, our water table was filled with magnetic letters, along with alphabet play dough stampers for little ones to explore.
We also made our own ABC Class Book to add to our bookshelf. The learners picked a letter, and then we discussed items that began with that sound. They drew as many of them as they could. I think they did great!
As each student is able to name the letters of the alphabet successfully, their name is added to a coconut and placed on our class coconut tree. We celebrate their success and they LOVE the attention.
We also made a palm tree with the letters of our name to go along with our Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Theme. You can check out many of these activities HERE in my Boom Chicka Boom Coconuts About Learning {Math and ELA Pack}
What kinds of alphabet activities do you use in your classroom or at home? Leave your ideas in the comments below! I would love to find additional ideas. :)
Thanks for reading! Have a wonderful day.
