Trees, Baseball, and Five!

My life has been so hectic the past couple of weeks that I haven't even been able to manage putting a post together!  Here are a few highlights from the past couple of weeks.

We started a unit of study on trees.  After reading and learning about the parts of a tree, we went on a nature walk to gather items from trees.  

 The weather was beautiful.  Everyone loved going outside for this kind of fun learning adventure.

We also made an art project that took us three days to complete.

 First, we drew trees with crayons.  For the morning sweet peas, I outlined the tree and they filled it in.  Then they drew grass at the bottom.

My afternoon sweethearts drew their own trees.  I LOVE how they all turned out so different.

The next day, we watercolored the grass green and the sky blue.

Day #3 we glued on scrunched tissue paper, as well as dipped our finger tips in paint to add extra layers of leaves.

I forgot to take a picture of the final project, but will add it later.  :)

Since we were discussing trees and things made from trees, it was a perfect time to add a little baseball to our lesson.  Bats are made of wood and our Royals are in the post-season!  Woo hoo!  During center time, we turned on the game to see the wood bats {and catch a peek at the game}.  Let's Go Royals!!!
