Halloween Fun!

I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching to share my week with Kasey's Five for Friday linky party.
You'll have to forgive the amount of pictures in this post. We had such a fun week, I tried to capture it as much as possible.
We read the book 'Hallo-Wiener by Dav Pilkey.  After, each little one decided how to decorate their own wiener dog for Halloween.
There we some really creative choices!
Batman,
Ariel,
and, The Incredible Hulk were just a few of the costumes given to the dogs.
Each little sweetie received a pumpkin to take home.  Before they took them home, we washed them, drew on them with dry erase markers, then hammered golf tee's into them for some great fine motor practice.
Each sweetie pie decorated their own jack-o-lanterns.  I love how unique each one tuned out!
Tuesday was our 'Pumpkin Fun Day'.  Some of our activities included:
A bean bag toss into a jack-o-lantern,
pumpkin bowling,
playing musical chairs to Halloween songs,

and some spooky sensory table fun.  :)
We ended the week by practicing how to trick or treat.
Each little trick or treater decorated a treat bag that included the steps to trick or treating.
Then we went several places through out our school to practice those steps.
It was great practice and a good excuse to get an extra wear of Halloween costumes.
Are these not the most adorable kids in the world?
I am in L.O.V.E. with them!
I hope you had a great week and a safe Halloween.
Thanks for reading!  Have a great day.  :)

Trees, Baseball, and Five!

My life has been so hectic the past couple of weeks that I haven't even been able to manage putting a post together!  Here are a few highlights from the past couple of weeks.
We started a unit of study on trees.  After reading and learning about the parts of a tree, we went on a nature walk to gather items from trees.
The weather was beautiful.  Everyone loved going outside for this kind of fun learning adventure.
We also made an art project that took us three days to complete.
First, we drew trees with crayons.  For the morning sweet peas, I outlined the tree and they filled it in.  Then they drew grass at the bottom.

My afternoon sweethearts drew their own trees.  I LOVE how they all turned out so different.
The next day, we watercolored the grass green and the sky blue.
Day #3 we glued on scrunched tissue paper, as well as dipped our finger tips in paint to add extra layers of leaves.
I forgot to take a picture of the final project, but will add it later.  :)
Since we were discussing trees and things made from trees, it was a perfect time to add a little baseball to our lesson.  Bats are made of wood and our Royals are in the post-season!  Woo hoo!  During center time, we turned on the game to see the wood bats {and catch a peek at the game}.  Let's Go Royals!!!

Fire! Five for Friday!

I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for Five for Friday.  This week we learned about fire safety.
Our local fire department came to our school.  The firefighters showed us how they get ready for a fire. They put on all their gear, including masks and oxygen tanks so little ones wouldn't be scared and hide if there was ever a fire in their own homes.  We even practiced calling out so they could hear us.
They showed us their truck with all the equipment on board.
We even got to sit in the cab and look at everything close up.
 The morning sweeties.  :)
Our afternoon junior firefighters.  :)
We continued on with fire safety by learning to call 911.
Of course I had to put a disclaimer in my newsletter about paying attention to the phones at home because in the past I have had parents share with me that their little ones actually went home and called 911 for real.  :)  I guess their learning carried over to home and different phones!
We also practiced 'stop, drop, and roll'
Each little learner had a 'flame' put on their clothes and had to show us what to do when their clothes caught fire.
They did great.  :)
{I apologize for the blurry pictures.  It's hard to capture little ones in motion!
To help us remember what to do at home we made these t-shirts by painting red and orange on a yellow piece of construction paper cut out into a t-shirt.  We then had to sequence the three step pictures and glue them on in order.  I found the stop, drop and roll pictures from Vanessa at Pre-K Pages.
To practice staying low in a fire, we colored 'smoke' on paper and cut out flames.  We then taped the flames on the paper, attached the paper to chairs and crawled under it.
 {I love how this sweet classmate is helping to encourage her friend to stay low and keep moving}
I found this great video to share with my little learners before we practice 'stop, drop, roll' and 'stay low and go'.
Link up your week!

Apple of Our Eye~Grandparents

This week we finished our apple theme and celebrated grandparents!
 We sorted apples by size.
We counted apples using tongs and ten frame templates.
For fun, we tried to balance apples on our heads after reading '10 Apples Up on Top'.
To get ready for 'Grandparents'/Special Persons' Day, we made a creativity of what we would look like as grandparents.  The pattern is from Deanna Jump's 100th Day Math and Literacy Fun!

It's hard work tearing paper!  {But oh so good fine motor practice  :) }
I also downloaded an app on my phone to age a person.  I took pictures of all my sweeties and turned them into grandparents.  They were cracking up!
I then put this display out in the hall.  Everyone loved it.  :)

After Grandparents'/Special Persons' Day, many little ones left early.  The few who remained behind played in the room.  Imagine my surprise and total delight when they chose to play 'school'.  They each took turns playing teacher and practicing our calendar activities.  It's those little moments that make my heart sing….
This week, we also had a visit from our most spectacular O.T.
She did a lesson on keeping our emotions/bodies under control, recognizing when we are getting out of the green zone, and things we can do to help regulate ourselves.  It was AMAZING.  The little learners really took it all in.
Now, I can refer to the chart and they know exactly what I mean and what to do.
I am truly blessed to work with the most amazing people.  They leave me in awe and inspire me.
What was your week like?  Link up with Doodle Bugs Teaching to let us know.
